Largo Rec Line Dance Class Descriptions
(As of: 3/21/23)
Absolute Beginner (AB), Southwest Rec Center, Fridays 1-2pm
This class includes line dances to suit those who have had absolutely no previous dance experience.
An AB routine will give a very basic understanding of how to dance different steps to different music, and will include instruction in terminology and definitions for each line dance step.
Beginner (High Beginner), Community Center, Tuesdays, 11-12pm
Dances in this class will be suitable for those who have some previous experience, and will build upon the skills learned in the AB class. Dances at this level will show how different steps flow one into the other, and provide some basic styling principles, i.e. looking up and body posture.
Improver (Improver/Intermediate), Community Center on Mondays and Wednesdays, both class times 10:30am-12pm. This class will assume additional dance experience and skills (above Beginners). Improver level dances will introduce additional step patterns, as syncopation, and steps like Anchor, Coaster, Mambo, Sailor, etc. Dance routines at this level could be up to 64 counts and will almost certainly have several turns. If not already mastered, dancers would be introduced to routines that feature tags and restarts.
Intermediate, Southwest Rec Center, Mondays and Wednesdays, 1-2pm, and Community Center on Fridays, 1-2:30 pm This class will feature dance routines for experienced dancers, those who have mastered a comprehensive range of step patterns and movements. An Intermediate dance is likely to feature interesting step combinations, pauses, syncopations, body movements, timing variations, and styling. Dances could embrace any amount of turning techniques and run up to 64 counts.
