Our youth and teen programming is a great opportunity for ages 5-18 to explore new talents, have fun with friends, connect with their community, and learn skills that will last a lifetime!
This is a beginner class for children to experience and learn street dance styles, from the oldest to the latest which will feature break dancing and other traditional hip hop dance styles. Each month there will be a new choreographed dance routine.

Using interactive theatre games and activities, this fun and supportive class allows aspiring young actors to explore their imaginations and discover their creativity by learning the fundamentals of acting!

This is a beginner-level chess club for ages 5 and up taught by coach Corey Acor, a former State, and National Chess Champion. Each class will include playtime with friends, chess, and other chess-related prizes. Chess helps improve logic, patience, and other critical thinking skills. Students will also learn how to practice at home anytime and how to find local chess tournaments to compete in.
Designed to provide teenagers with real camp counselor experience at various City of Largo Summer Camps. Teens will develop essential leadership skills, learn how to work with children and most importantly, have fun. Participants can earn volunteer hours that meet the qualifications for Bright Futures through Pinellas County Schools and other extracurricular school groups. Teens will also learn life skills that will aid in the next steps of their education and career path. Job selection, interview skills, budgeting, social skills, and creating a resume are some of the possible topics that will be covered. Teens that have completed grades 8, 9, 10, 11 or 12th will be given priority over younger applicants.
Applications for Summer 2024 will open in January 2024.
In this 3-week class, students will provide a monologue of their choosing to workshop. Students explore the physical and vocal techniques required to create believable and authentic characters.

This enrichment focused performance group provides students with the opportunity to grow as artists and arts advocates in a fun and encouraging environment. Students attend monthly master classes, workshops, and rehearsals with arts professionals. Participants will also have performance opportunities within the community.
Kids will have a blast playing fun games all night on select days at Highland and Southwest Recreation. The Snack Shop will be open for pizza, drink, and snack purchases.
-A child registration form is required for each participant for the school year. -Younger children age 3-5 are offered separate activities in the preschool room and must be potty trained. -Wrap around available only to children currently enrolled in our afterschool program at the event's location from 6-6:30p (includes pizza and drink), cost is $7.

Students will improve their Manga drawing skills in their own style, trying new techniques and concepts that help them build self-confidence while learning about different manga artists and genres. Because each student works at their own level, there is no need to “keep up” with other students. Please arrive with your sketchbook, drawing pencils (black and colored), and eraser.

Drop in for a fun evening of role-playing games outdoors with foam weapons and defense gear. Drop the kids off to run some errands or participate as a family, it’s your choice. All equipment will be provided. Cups and helmets are encouraged but not required.

Learn the basics of caring for children such as feeding infants and toddlers, changing diapers, first aid, CPR and choking rescue. Fee includes the Safe Sitter manual and completion card.

Teens Go Insane Fridays! Bring a friend or two and drop in. The night will include open gym, game room, the option of participating in activities such as dodgeball or a Nerf battle, and of course, just hang out. Our Snack Shop will be open for purchases.

*Program Policy Please note all participants must be signed in by 9p, no one will be permitted to enter the program after this time. This program is a drop-in program that allows the participants to leave the facility when they choose to. For safety and security reasons, once a participant leaves the facility they are not permitted to reenter. By signing in to the program the participant and parent/legal guardian acknowledges the above policy and understands that your child is only supervised by a City of Largo staff member when they are signed into the program.
Teens will be granted access to the fitness center without a parent/guardian presence upon completion. Teens will learn proper form, technique, the importance of body awareness and safety. Participants will leave with a developed workout to get them started on their own. Regular fitness center fees apply upon completion. This course is currently only offered at Highland Recreation Complex.
The Art of Lightsaber Choreography is a class dedicated to the stage combat forms used to create exciting fights like the ones seen in a galaxy far, far away. Every class will focus on the basics of stances, foot work, strikes and parries used to create a thrilling theatrical fight for stage or screen. The art of lightsaber choreography is not a martial art, but rather a theater art form that will help you build coordination, confidence and creativity.
Would you like to learn archery? Join Coach Joseph Pike, a Level-3 United States Archery Association Archery Instructor, for this beginner teen archery class. You’ll learn to safely handle and shoot an arrow with a bow, increase hand-eye coordination, strengthen your upper body, improve your focus and confidence, and have loads of fun.
Registration is required by 5p the day before class begins.
This class will focus on the basics of how to draw cartoons. Youth will be introduced to different drawing techniques, storytelling, and prepare their artistic understanding of their work with a new drawing project monthly. They'll also learn how drawing can be a means of communication, allowing a safe environment to draw their feelings and attitudes in ways that words cannot express. Children will also explore other genres such as comic books/strips, anime, and illustrations. Please arrive with your sketchbook, drawing pencils (black and colored) and eraser.
Zumba® Kids classes feature kid-friendly routines based on original Zumba® choreography. The instructor will break down the dance steps, add games, activities, and cultural exploration elements into the class structure. Zumba® Kids incorporate key childhood development elements like leadership, respect, teamwork, confidence, self-esteem, memory, creativity, coordination, cultural awareness.
Cost is $20/$40 per month or drop in for $6/$12 per class
12 hours of fun at Highland Recreation! Children will be supervised while they play sports, make crafts, play games, and enjoy time with their friends. Let's see who can make it till the morning. Please bring socks, a pillow and blanket.

Come prepared to get messy and have fun during our Mom Son Messy Madness event! On arrival, mom and sons will have dinner and then take part in high-energy interactive messy games. Make sure to wear clothes and shoes that you don’t mind getting messy and a towel.
