Bring Your Art to Life with Our Comics Classes and Workshops

If you have a child who loves to draw or is interested in comic books or Manga, we have a great lineup of classes and workshops to sign up for to nurture their creativity and curiosity!

Create Your Own Comic
Thursday, October 6, 5-8pm Ages 11 and up, Highland Recreation Complex
Cost: $25 per person
Materials needed: sketchbook, drawing pencils (black and color), eraser, and worksheet

Do you have a story that you would like to see come to life on paper? In this three-hour workshop students will create a five-panel comic or graphic novel. They will learn each step of the process, from creating a character, planning a story, and working with panels. The instructor helps each student along the way with additional information and resources, and best of all, being a master artist is not required!

Youth Cartooning
Tuesdays, 5:45-6:30pm, Ages 6-11, Highland Recreation Complex
Cost: $32/$64 per month

This class will focus on the basics of how to draw cartoons. Youth will be introduced to different drawing techniques, storytelling, and preparing their artistic understanding of their work with a new drawing project monthly. They will also learn how drawing can be a means of communication, allowing a safe environment to draw their feelings and attitudes in ways that words cannot express.

Magical Manga
Tuesdays, 6:30-8pm, Grades 6-12, Highland Recreation Complex
Cost: $36/$72 per month

Students will improve their Manga drawing skills in their own style, trying new techniques and concepts that help them build self-confidence while learning about different manga artists and genres. Because each student works at their own level, there is no need to “keep up” with other students.
